Release from Liability, Assumption of Risk, and Covenant Not to Sue Agreement
I acknowledge that I have volunteered to refurbish computers or do similar projects with Computers for the Blind (CFTB).
I am voluntarily participating in the activities of refurbishing computers which include, but are not limited to, refurbishing, picking up, delivering, lifting, loading, cleaning, unloading, packing, shipping, and moving computers and monitors and other related activities with the knowledge of the risk of injury involved. I hereby agree to accept any and all risk of injury, illness, or death, and verify this statement by entering my electronic signature below. As a volunteer, this acceptance applies from this day forward.
As consideration for volunteering with CFTB, to participate in the activities, and use CFTB’s tools and facilities, I hereby agree and covenant that I, my assignees, heirs, guardians, and legal representatives will never file, make any claim, lawsuit, or other proceeding (whether judicial or administrative) against, sue, or touch the property of CFTB and their directors, officers, agents, employees, volunteers, suppliers, contractors, or subcontractors for injury, illness, or damage resulting from my participation in the CFTB activity. I hereby forever release and discharge CFTB from all known and unknown actions, claims, expenses, or demands. (Including, but not limited to, attorneys' fees and other litigation related expenses, negligence claims and wrongful death claims pursuant to Texas civil Prac. & Rem Code 71.021.) That I, or my representatives, now have, or may hereafter have, for injury, death, or damage resulting from or related in anyway to my volunteering at CFTB activities (Including, but not limited to, actions, claims, or demands resulting in whole or in part from the negligence of CFTB, or their directors, officers, agents, employees, suppliers, or contractors, in both their public and private capacities.) This release is intended by all/both parties to be broad in its effect.
I also agree to let CFTB use any media taken of me in videos or photos to promote their cause. I have carefully read this release from Liability and Assumption of Risk Agreement and I fully understand its contents. I am aware that this is a release of liability and a legal contract between me and CFTB, and that it affects my legal rights. This agreement contains the entire understanding of the parties and there are no oral agreements that apply to or are binding concerning my participation. I am signing this document of my own free will.
By entering anything into the name field and hitting submit, you have agreed to everything contained in this contract.
If you are under the age of 18, you need to submit a signed release document from a parent or guardian before starting your first shift.
We are excited that you are interested in volunteering at Computers for the Blind. We have several different areas in which to volunteer, all of which are in-person at our Refurbishing Center in Richardson, Texas.
Our volunteering opportunities help further our mission to bridge the digital divide with individuals with visual impairments. Please read further to explore the areas in which you could help our cause.
We are committed to providing the best equipment and parts to our clients, so that they have the best chance of being successful in the digital world. These are built by volunteers who test hardware, replace needed components, thoroughly clean the system, and set up the software used by the client. We are looking for volunteers who have some experience with desktop and laptop components and are can follow our step-by-step processes.
Many of our donations cannot be sent to our clients, but are still valuable. We sell these parts on our eBay store to fund our mission and help us expand. We need volunteers who can identify and research values, clean, repair and test parts, and list them on our store.
Many of the donations we receive are not ready to be shipped out. They may need board level repairs, hardware replacements or reconditioning. This involves hardware level diagnosis and knowledge.
We are expanding into training and support for our clients. We know that getting computers out isn't enough, as many of our clients have never used one. We will be holding training classes and providing suport over the phone for JAWS and ZoomText, the programs that we ship on our computers. We are looking for individuals who have experience with JAWS and ZoomText, as well as experience teaching or training others. We want to make sure that everyone has access to the tools to make them successful with the technology that we provide them.
Although we are looking for volunteers who have the skills and experience listed above, we welcome all volunteer applications, as we can provide some hands-on training to those who are dedicated to help us further our mission. Please continue through this application and we will contact you for the next step.
Which opportunities are you interested in?

Do you have a background in computer hardware, programming, or IT?
Do you have experience troubleshooting and fixing hardware level problems?

Are you able to commit to a long-term volunteer position with us?
We thank you again for your interest in volunteering at Computers for the Blind! We review every application and normally respond within seven days. Please do not submit multiple applications as this will slow down our ability to respond.
Please note that we have raised the requirements for volunteering and we have limited positions, so we cannot accept every applicant.
For those that are accepted, the next step is an interview with our Operations Manager, including a hands-on test of some of the skills we are looking for.
